I was drenched in sweat before 9am after working in the garden. It is decidedly not a good day to make a slow simmered bolognaise, but I’m so ready for fall-ish dinners.

And I had a bag of chicken livers from our homegrown chickens that needed to be dealt with. I hate liver. But I refuse to let our animals go to waste (and organ meats are packed with nutrients). See my stories if you’re interested in easy-to-use liver!

Intense beauty amid heartache. Last week I had to cull one of our laying hens who never quite recovered from sour crop. She deserved a dignified death, but it’s never easy being the one who makes that decision.

I don’t wish it away- not for one second. There’s so much beauty in the sweat and tears that build a farm, an intensity that was lost to me before we began growing all the things. #chooseyourhard
