Our Story

– about us –

John and I began making wine back in 2008. Newly married and just finishing grad school, we had just bought a house in the suburbs and were struggling to make ends meet. Our wait for affordable wine was…not worth it. Not the first year. But the second year we picked some muscadine grapes off an ancient vine on a friends old farm, and that thing took second place in the state fair!

We were hooked- and not just on making wine. Our passion for homegrown food blossomed on that little half acre, and every year our yard seemed to burst a bit more with raspberries, blackberries, tomatoes, and wine grapes(well, the deer ate those!).

With our fourth child on the way in 2017, our itch for more room led us to finally finding this little piece of sunshine and open pasture north of Hillsborough, NC. Thirteen acres of blank canvas on which we could build, plant, carve, and shape a sustainable little homestead for our growing family. We could give our kids the freedom to be farm kids; to roam the fields and ponds and woods.

We hope to inspire you to cultivate your own little piece of earth, however small or large it may be. Welcome to our journey!

I'm Amanda, a mama of four wild things and a growing herd of animals. We just built a farmhouse on our 13 acres of countryside in North Carolina, and are on our way to transform worn out tobacco pasture into a diverse landscape of animals, veggies, orchards, and grapevines. Join me on the farming journey! Read More…
