Thankful for moments like this amid the incessant

Thankful for moments like this amid the incessant noise of life. And a wonderful neighbor who is teaching my kids all things horses. I was looking forward to this fall for many reasons, but perhaps mostly because I thought I’d regain a sense of self. After 8.5 years of nursing and mothering multiple littles at once, I was supposed to have two kids in school, one in preschool, and just one home with me... and time to breath again and do something for myself. Focus on the homestead, perhaps? Or my art? All I know is I once again find myself grieving the things that can’t be right now. And trying to look for the sunshine in the tedious tasks that have become routine. Teaching third grade. And first grade. And preschool. And fixing the tech issues. And tend the animals. And the garden. And give these four kids the extra attention they need right now. There is simply not enough of me to go around, and it is oh so hard.

Many days I think getting through this marathon of a pandemic is harder than having newborns. There is no end in sight this time. Parenting right now means working through emotional exhaustion, day after day. All I can think is that we had better emerge on the other side with unparalleled gratitude for ordinary life. May we learn to #findthesunshine

Also, today our dishwasher broke 😭 Send wine. And chocolate.

Last weekend we processed our rooster, Batman. Despite our efforts to handle him often for 6 months in hopes he’d be a gentleman, he turned into a real jerk. After terrorizing us all for nearly a month, he will be dinner tonight! And my kids were unbelievably excited to play with those hens again without fear. The learning curve on the farm is humbling, teaching kids to deal with death and gratitude included!
